1 At a Time Rescue

In October of 2004, a plea for help went out on a public message board regarding a 6 month old rat terrier on death row in a high-kill gassing facility in the Southern USA. Attempts to advocate for the pup that had less than 24 hours left to live, failed. His picture no longer appeared on the website and it could not be found on the Happy Tales list. After checking the site daily for a month, sending emails to local rescuers and making several phone calls to officials, we were told that our little friend had most likely been gassed. During our search for him we saw hundreds of highly adoptable animals on death row. 1atatime Rescue was formed In Memory of the nameless little boy who lost his life far too early.

Every day across North America thousands of highly adoptable animals die needlessly. Many of these animals die by antiquated means such as gassing. We are committed to helping death row animals have a chance at life. It is our hope that by bringing attention to the plight of shelter animals, that those people looking to bring an animal into their family might consider adoption instead of purchasing one from a backyard breeder or pet store. Our prime focus is on small/medium sized dogs as these are the ones in greatest demand. In turn this demand is what feeds the lucrative puppy mill industry. Our rescue efforts also include cats and at times, other small animals in life and death situations.
